Why is Himalayan salt available in different colors?

There is no addition of colors or preservatives. So, the color can entirely be attributed to the mineral content of the crystals. The deeper the red of the salt crystals the higher will be the amount of certain minerals such as iron in it. For the better part, the granules are either pink or apricot which has a relatively standard content of trace elements. Hence, the deeper colored salt is seldom sold as edible and is instead used to craft lamps and other products.
